How to Create an IRS Online Account and Download Your IRS Account Transcripts
As part of our review of certain IRS penalty and interest issues, we may ask you to provide IRS Account Transcripts for specific tax years.
The IRS Online Account allows individual taxpayers to securely access tax records, balances, payment information, notices, and transcripts. The IRS uses ID.me to verify your identity when you create or access an online account.
Step 1 — Go to the IRS Online Account page
Visit the IRS Individual Online Account page:
Select the option to sign in or create an account.
Step 2 — Create or access your account
If you already have an IRS Online Account or ID.me account, sign in using your existing credentials.
If you do not have an account, follow the prompts to create one. You may need to verify your identity using ID.me. The IRS recommends having photo identification available when creating the account.

Step 3 — Go to your tax records
Once you are logged in, go to Records and Status at the top, the choose Tax Records. The IRS currently refers taxpayers to the Tax Records area of the Individual Online Account to view or download transcript information.
You can also start from the IRS Get Transcript page:

Step 4 — Select the Account Transcript
When prompted for transcript type, choose:
Account Transcript
An Account Transcript generally shows account activity such as tax assessed, payments, credits, penalties, interest, adjustments, and refunds. For this type of review, we generally need the Account Transcript.
Step 5 — Download the requested years
Download the Account Transcript for each year we requested.
For many Kwong-related penalty and interest reviews, the relevant years may include:
2019
2020
2021
2022
Send securely to us via SafeSend Secure File Transfer.
If you cannot access your IRS Online Account
If you cannot create or access an IRS Online Account, let us know.
In some cases, we may be able to obtain transcripts on your behalf using IRS authorization forms, such as Form 2848 or Form 8821. This requires additional processing time to prepare the forms, retrieve signatures, and contact the IRS.
